Who was Derek Fuhrmann

Some loved ones and friends toke to social media to express tribute to Derek Fuhrmann. ” The world has lost one of the greatest souls to ever walk it. To me, Derek Fuhrmann was more than a dear friend — he was family. An extraordinary producer, a once-in-a-lifetime collaborator, and someone whose presence made everything better.

I met Derek on the very day he found out his wife was pregnant with their first child. That same day, we wrote Cross My Mind — my very first single. From there, we spent years working side by side, creating song after song, ultimately leading to the release of my debut album, Something You Can Break.

The personal and creative journeys we shared shaped me — not just as a musician and a writer, but as a person. I’ll always be grateful for the music we made and the time we had. Time gives, and time takes. Though it took Derek far too soon, the time we had with him left us better, richer, more inspired.

Here’s to the songs we made, the ones we never got to finish, and the music he leaves behind — a treasure trove of memories and melodies. I know I’ll see you again someday, Derek. Until then, I’ll keep singing our songs — and I know I’ll feel you there, too. “Take me back to the highs that we had when it felt like the first time.” I love you, brother.”

The Phillip Phillips song I’ve included here? Derek co-wrote that, too. It’s heartbreaking to learn of Derek’s passing this weekend.
