It is with immense sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Barrett Misiwich, the beloved Head Coach of the 2016 Jr. Blues, a man whose influence reached far beyond the ice rink and deep into the hearts of those he mentored, supported, and inspired. His sudden departure has left a void not only in the sports community but in the lives of countless young athletes, friends, and family members who were touched by his unwavering commitment, kindness, and leadership.
Who was Barrett Misiwich
Barrett Misiwich wasn’t just a coach—he was a mentor, a role model, and a cornerstone of his community (Martensville – City in Saskatchewan). With a genuine heart and a passion for the game, he helped shape the futures of many young players, guiding them to success in both sport and life. His players weren’t just athletes to him—they were individuals full of potential, and Barrett Misiwich made it his mission to bring out the best in each of them.
Whether leading the Jr. Blues to victory on the ice or offering a word of encouragement during a tough time, Barrett Misiwich exemplified what it meant to lead with compassion and purpose. His legacy will endure in the lives of those he coached, in the strength of the team he helped build, and in the community he brought together with such dedication and love.
A moving tribute shared by a friend says it best:
“Two years ago, Barrett Misiwich brought the Blues family to life. He built more than a team — he built a brotherhood. He was an incredible coach, mentor, and friend who led our boys to so many victories, both on and off the ice. Barrett poured his heart into this team, teaching the game he loved and shaping these young players into strong athletes and even stronger people. His belief in each of them never wavered. We are devastated by this loss, but we will carry his spirit with us in every shift, every game, and every cheer. Rest easy, Coach. You’ll always be with us behind the bench.”
On July 1st, 2025, Barrett Misiwich’s family experienced the unimaginable. Erin, his devoted wife, and their three young sons—ages 13, 10, and 9—lost their husband and father in the blink of an eye. Barrett was the rock of their family. He coached their sports teams, cheered them on from the sidelines, helped with homework, and embodied the role of a present, loving father. His absence leaves an irreplaceable gap in their lives.
Barrett Misiwich GoFundMe page
To support Erin and the boys through this devastating time, a GoFundMe page has been created in Barrett Misiwich’s honor. This fund will help provide financial and emotional stability for his family as they face the difficult road ahead. Contributions will ensure the boys can continue the activities they love, stay grounded in the routines Barrett Misiwich helped build, and pursue the education and dreams he so deeply believed in. More than anything, it offers Erin the space and support she needs to grieve, heal, and continue raising their children in the spirit of love and strength that Barrett Misiwich instilled.
This kind of loss is beyond what most can imagine. For three young boys to grow up without their father is a heartbreak no family should have to endure. But we can help carry a piece of that burden. We can be the community Barrett always showed up for.
Let’s honor Coach Misiwic the way he honored everyone he coached—with loyalty, love, and unwavering support. Let’s help Erin and her boys feel the same strength Barrett gave so freely. Let’s give them hope and security in the middle of grief. Please visit the GoFundMe page (linked on our site) to donate what you can. Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference. Rest in peace, Coach Barrett Misiwich. Your legacy lives on in every player you believed in, every family you supported, and every life you helped shape. You will always be remembered, honored, and deeply missed.
