The outpouring of kind words, prayers, and shared memories has been a source of strength for them during this incredibly difficult time.

Scott County EMS also released a moving tribute in his honor, writing:

“We humbly ask the public to keep the family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts and prayers as they face the unimaginable grief following the passing of Detective Donovan McCutcheon—affectionately known to many as “72-13.” His unexpected loss has left a void not only in the department but in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The pain of losing a colleague, a friend, and a protector is one that resonates deeply within the law enforcement community. Those who have walked in his boots understand all too well the sorrow that comes with saying goodbye to a brother in blue.

Donovan McCutcheon’s legacy is defined not only by his years of dedicated service to Scott County, but also by the compassion, courage, and integrity he demonstrated daily. He was a man of extraordinary character—an officer who never hesitated to step up, lend a helping hand, or provide comfort in times of need. His selflessness was felt throughout the community he proudly served and among his fellow officers who considered him both a role model and a trusted friend. His presence brought stability in chaos, warmth in moments of despair, and strength when it was needed most. Though he may be gone, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he impacted and in the values he embodied.”

A longtime friend and fellow deputy paid tribute to Donovan in a heartfelt message, capturing the essence of their close bond and the meaningful, everyday moments that defined their friendship:

“I will always consider you a friend—not simply because you were an outstanding officer, though that you were.
Not just because you were one of the most genuine and dependable people I’ve ever met, though you absolutely were that, too. It was the moments between the shifts—the shared laughs in the parking lot, the spontaneous late-night food runs, the unfiltered conversations about everything and nothing at all.

We talked about baseball, about life, about our frustrations and our dreams. You were the kind of guy who made the hard days lighter, the late nights shorter, and the job more bearable. You were steady, loyal, and endlessly kind. You left us too soon, my friend, but your memory will always ride with us in the squad car, walk with us through the doors of the precinct, and live on in the badge you wore with pride.”

As the days ahead bring reflection and healing, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, along with Donovan’s loved ones, continues to ask for privacy and respect as they work through this profound and painful loss. Donovan McCutcheon represented the very best of law enforcement—a man who served with heart, humility, and heroism.

His absence is deeply felt, but his example will continue to inspire. May we all strive to carry forward his legacy—with honor, with compassion, and with the unwavering commitment to service that Donovan showed each day of his life.
