Tribute in honor of Jacquie Mathers
One longtime friend shared a moving tribute online, offering a glimpse into the powerful bond they shared:
“Jacquie was such a vital part of the most influential years of my life. We first met back in grade 7 at SMB—though back then, we knew her as ‘Middleton.’ I can’t even remember exactly how we became friends, but it happened quickly. Suddenly, she was part of every iconic and coming-of-age memory I hold dear. I even remember trying alcohol for the first time with her—stealing vodka from her parents’ cabinet and refilling it with water! (We thought we were so clever.)
What I remember most, though, was her laugh. She had this quiet, almost poker-faced demeanor, and since I was deep in my class clown phase, getting her to laugh felt like the greatest achievement. I never stopped trying.
Just recently, I found this short, silly video of us from grade 8—hearing her voice and laughter again, even just for a few seconds, means more than I can say. I will never, ever forget her smile. I’m praying for her family as they navigate life without her here. And I pray that Jacquie is now reunited with those she missed so dearly.”
Jacquie’s sudden passing has left an unfillable void in the lives of many. She was a daughter, a friend, a collaborator, and a quiet force of nature. Her laugh, her kindness, her way of making others feel seen and loved—all of it remains deeply imprinted in the hearts of those who knew her best.
At this time, no official announcement has been made by the family regarding memorial or funeral arrangements. We kindly ask that the public and media respect the family’s privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss.
Jacquie, your time here was far too short, but the impact you made was immeasurable. You will be remembered always—for your light, your laughter, and the beautiful, quiet magic you brought into this world.
