Lyle Vass Accident-Obituary, Irricana, Alberta, Man ’51 killed in fatal Car Crash

In loving memory of Lyle Vass. A talented craftsman, mentor, and friend gone too soon. It is with immense sorrow that we share the tragic news of the passing of Lyle Vass, who lost his life in a devastating car accident on the evening of Saturday, July 5, 2025. The collision occurred just before 6:00 p.m. along Highway 9, south of the Town of Irricana, northeast of Calgary, Alberta. The crash involved a Ford Mustang, in which Lyle was traveling, and a Dodge 3500 truck driven by a 16-year-old girl.

While no charges have been laid at this time, police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and are currently assessing whether impairment may have been a contributing factor to the incident.

Lyle’s sudden and untimely death has left a deep and painful void in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider community. Known for his extraordinary skill, his generous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to his craft, Lyle was a man who touched the lives of many. His passing has sent shockwaves through those who knew and admired him—personally and professionally.

“I first met Lyle back in 2007 when he was putting the final touches on his 1971 Mustang project. Even then, I was blown away by the craftsmanship, care, and precision he put into every inch of that car—especially for someone so young. Over the years, I had the pleasure of attending several of his metal shaping workshops, and it was always clear that this wasn’t just a job for Lyle—it was his passion, his art, his calling.

Our own shop was lucky to work with him on a number of collaborative projects over the years. Each time, Lyle brought not only talent and technical excellence but also humility, kindness, and a genuine desire to share and teach.

His work ethic, creativity, and character left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed paths with him.
